Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. I don't know how I lived here for so long and haven't stumbled into Burrito Border. It's a lot like Chipotle slash Qdoba slash Moe's. The bowls they serve the naked burritos in are cool, and wow, do they fill it! I had a chicken bowl with rice and black beans and salsa. I also enjoyed a healthy serving of tortilla chips. All tasty, especially the salsas. In general, it's not the most amazing Mexican food I have ever had. But it's in a good location, a nice staff, super cheap (especially on Taco Tuesday), and it has a fun vibe. I'm a fan.

I often get the crazy look from my boyfriend when he asks for some of my favorite places to eat and, me: the foodie who is never 'wowed', says burrito boarder. I get there are more authentic Mexican restaurants within 10 minutes of here. I get most of the help looks like they are a big fan of 'the green' movement. And I even understand that it's location in the middle of the bars makes it not the easiest to get to on a Friday night for people not bar hopping. But guess what: I don't care. For me burrito boarder isn't trying to be anything it isn't. They are a chill place, serving good food to college students and drunk people on the weekends. They serve to business people during the day, and on occasion hungover me when I go back downtown to pick up my car after a few too many. If you like your food more pretentious that's fine, but I like my food to be exactly what is advertised. And burrito boarder is that. Now on to what to order: crunch 'em tacos. It's a soft shell taco, add a layer of guac, queso or bean dip. Add a crunchy taco shell and pile on the toppings. Simple as that. I'm a big fan of the mango tango salsa and cabbage slaw, but that's just me. If you're too cool for tacos the burritos are best when they press them after wrapping them. And they aren't tiny. Cool thing about this place is they mix all the toppings before wrapping it! I HATE giant burritos where one bite is meat, next bite is guac, next bite is all cheese (I don't really hate that bite with cheese, but you get the idea)... Best thing to me: my food is consistently good. Served by friendly people. And doesn't break my wallet (hello taco Tuesday crew!).

Done drinking for the night? Like going to San Loco in Miami Beach, this is where you want to go. Awesome service with fabulous tacos. Even if you have to pretend to have a few beers, you should definitely hit this taco paradise for an end of the evening hunger fix. Great tacos, great draft beer service, and folks that work their tail off to make an end of the evening in St. Pete a classic!

Love burrito border!!! I especially enjoy the Taco Tuesday deals. All of their ingredients are fresh and delicious. Love the spicy chicken and pork. Great place to get some great tacos, burritos, and burrito bowls. The also have a decent beer selection as well. Definitely going back!

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE This place is the go-to spot for yummy food. Forget Chipolte, forget taco bus, forget taco bell. I introduced everyone to Burrito Boarder and no complaints- thus far. I usually get the taco salad with fish or chicken or tacos. Chips & queso are a must try! Cool chipolte assembly line concept.

A great burrito that was made with very fresh ingredients and tasted great. The atmosphere was very casual and I felt like I made a great decision by trying them out. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit much more often.

You're typical looking taco place, however the food is delicious and super filling. Also the draft beer is cheap. Great place to eat and drink your fill for an affordable price. I will definitely come back!

Fresh burritos, perfectly wrapped. The extra hot sauce has an excellent kick and flavor. Cannot express how well the burrito was wrapped. Toight like a toiger.

It was Taco Tuesday. I didn't know they had one until the register guy was very nice and told me to wait 5 minutes to pay because the happy hour for paying it half price. I love tacos! I'm in downtown St. Pete alot. It's cool of a worker trying to give you special deals before trying to take my money first. So overall, he didn't take advantage of the sales.

  • Kerry O.

A huge burrito with good quality products good quality service at a very low price. I would recommend this to anybody with a large appetite and a small budget. Some outdoor seating which makes it a nice place to be at this time of year in Florida. So, for a quick bite at the right price go to the Burrito border.

This place is awful. Just go to Chipotle. Spent $30 and had 2 burritos and 2 drinks...oh and two roaches. Very cute. The staff had all obviously been smoking a joint right be fore we walked in. It was dead and sad. The food wasn't even that good and the chips had enough salt to feed an army. Gross...gross stay away. Can we get our money back already...

Check it--almost all the three-star ratings here don't say why they knocked off the two stars. Being a Chipotle fan doesn't mean low ratings go to places that aren't Chipotle. Personally, I eat at Chipotle more, but I'm still loving me some Burrito Boarder especially when I'm in downtown. There's price, convenience, and speed to consider. The meat selections are all great--moist with just enough seasoning. I like the fish option. True Cali style there. I noticed they chefs cook all the meat in small batches so you know it hasn't been sitting out long. What sells this place for me are the variety of burrito wraps (like spinach wheat makes me think healthier) and more toppings like grilled peppers/onions as well as cilantro and crispy little onions! Plus I can add as much bottled srirachi and chulula as I want! (Small side of chips with all orders doesn't hurt either) Okay ai'ght the young bloods behind the counter have ranged from hollering welcomes once I enter to being plain indifferent (typically the girl servers I noticed. Hmmm). This place is very casual and the prices are very similar to 'that other place.' Another perk is eating at the outside tables and people watching on a Saturday noon.

Surfy decor, friendly staff, fast casual mex. Burrito lunch special - spicy chicken, black beans, + 3 toppings (I chose lettuce, onion/cilantro mix, pico de gallo) for $5 - not a huge burrito but enough for lunch. Got it 'pressed' which made it similar to a Taco Bell griller and a little easier to eat.

The Border is my go to place for the Burrito Bowl or soft tacos. I can always count of fresh ingredients to satisfy my craving when downtown for lunch or late night.

I visited Burrito Border as a stop on a Charitable Fund Raising event. I must say they blew all of the other establishments out of the water. They provided all of our participants with free tacos and beer. The tacos were being made fresh as fast as they were being eaten. These were not pre-made, nor did they sit around for any period of time. My personal favorite was a pulled spicy chicken taco. The staff at Burrito Border as very friendly and kept making more food and beer available. The tacos themselves were soft shell type. The flour tortilla was fresh, not chewy, and not hard and crispy. The ingredients used all tasted fresh. The lettuce had a crunch to it. The chicken was tender and juicy. I was quite impressed. I will return to Burrito Border to taste some of their other options.

I am quite disappointed with what used to be a favorite restaurant of mine. The last two times I have come here - the salsa's have been bad - like to the point you feel little bubbles in your mouth! Totally ruins anything that salsa is on. Not to mention the ground beef I ordered for my crunchy tacos wasn't properly drained so by the time I get home to eat - the then crunchy tacos are now like soggy cardboard. I'm not sure if it's a lack in management or just a complete disregard for food quality, but this place is going downhill at an alarming speed. The fast fresh friendly motto and environment is great if it can be delivered. Back to basics!

  • Ryan H.

This place is a pleasant upgrade from Chipotle, offering organic and tasty ingredients to fill tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, or my favorite the Macho Nachos. If you're an eater, the Macho Nachos is where it's at. They take a bowl and fill it with fresh-made chips, topped off with rice, beans, queso, your choice of meat, and as many toppings as you want! Some things like Guacamole and Soup are extra, but most ingredients are fair game for any order. If you can somehow make it there on Tuesday, they sell tacos for a dollar each. No, there's no limit!

  • Warren R.

I've eaten here several times and had their burritos and burrito bowls. The atmosphere is pretty nice for a fast food place, it has that whole surfer theme going for it. The workers have always been fast and efficient. The ingredients seem fresh, but the steak being used is more of a well done, which may be fine for some people, but I'm a medium-rare sort of guy. They're worth trying out, decent food for the price. They're good, and pretty fast, but not as good as other *cough chipolte* burrito places.

Went here for taco Tuesday. ...AMAZING. ... not to shabby for a dollar ! The sweet tea was good too ! Friendly staff !

  • D. D.

Went here for the first time today and my last. I ordered the burrito bowl with spicy shredded chicken, black beans, rice, and supposed hot salsa. I also got guacamole and onions and peppers on it. My jaw dropped to the floor when the girl at the register said....$10.49. They charge extra fir the guacamole and onions and peppers. I thought...this better be good for this price. It was edible...but really bland and the rice tasted like instant rice or something. I lived on the west coast before here and never in my life have I paid that much for an authentic burrito bowl...made by real Mexicans and not some white high school dropouts.

Visited this place the other night. As far as the food I thought is was great food and fresh choices. The staff was very friendly and I was pleased to be served so quickly. The taco salad bowls are so big! I could not eat the whole thing by myself. The mango tea was very refreshing as well. The ONLY thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is the location. Parking is a pain in the ass. Also I wanted to sit outside but none of the tables had been cleared. So I took the dishes inside (which I didn't mind). The staff apologized for not having it clean and I was ok with that. but What really bothered me is that the downtown area has a lot of panhandlers. I just wanted to eat outside with my sister and have a conversation but a man kept coming up to me and asking to buy my food with his pocket change. I know this is not something that the staff can keep from happening but It did not make me want to go back. Love the food but wish the location was better.

Come to this place on Tuesdays! They have an excellent Tuesday deal: $1 tacos up to 10 tacos with a purchase of a drink. I had four. They limit you on the meat selection - only chicken and ground beef - but still a great deal! Also a good selection of iced teas. They have a good vibe in this place with music and TVs. Staff could've used more life.. they were kinda "dead", but maybe cuz theyve been working non-stop. I would recommend this place for a good hangout on Tuesdays.

Good food & good portions. Monday-Friday be there before 12pm or be prepared to wait!

  • Carey F.

I've been here lots of times, however, it's been gradually going downhill...pretty much since the 2nd and 3rd locations opened. Today will unfortunately be the last time I visit. The restaurant/kitchen looked filthy, the manager(?) was riding his skateboard around the empty restaurant and one of the employees walked his bike into the restaurant. They were out of the kind of beer we ordered and the signature coleslaw that goes into their "Boarder Style" tacos. The gauc, pico, queso and corn salsa were all super bland. The steak was still pink/red in the middle but all dried out. The only flavor was from the fresh jalapenos which were cut into 1/2" or bigger pieces...way larger than they should be or used to be. It's a real shame, as this place had great food and atmosphere back when it first opened.

  • Cassandra M.

This place was great! My husband and I were looking for a quick dinner before a movie and this was perfect! Two huge burritos with chips and drinks for less than $20. And they were delicious! I think we will be back again before we head back home.

I much prefer BB over Tijuana Flats. But Chipotle is still better than BB. I've never had a bad experience here. The staff are friendly. I've actually been to events they've catered and enjoyed the food there as well. I love the fact that they have Horchata and are open late!

  • C G.

Very average. If you are female you get special attention. If not then they look like they can't wait to get home. Had most of Items on Menu over a couple of days. Average nothing special

  • Crono F.

This place was great! I got a wheat burrito with crusher chicken (spicy), black beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, and added guacamole (which is the second guacamole that I've ever liked, first was in Cozumel). It was really good and had the right amount of kick. This rest urban is similar to Chipotle of your ever been there (fresh ingredients and way the food is made), but I never really liked Chipotle whereas my wife did, but I think Burrito Boarder will be our new burrito place. Great portion size and nice helpful staff! The place was also clean.

I really wanted to write a positive review of Burrito Boarder, as I love the concept and skateboards everywhere and the people who work there are outstanding usually, albeit punky/crusty types, which I prefer anyway. But at the end of the day it's about the food. And nothing really jumps out as outstanding about any of it. Meats are just ok, toppings just ok, not terribly flavorful even when you combine it with most of the toppings. Again, I really want to like this place...but the other thing that bothers me a bit is the taco tuesday and burrito wednesday promotions. There are all kinds of loopholes to the specials that put me off. Tacos can only be chicken or ground beef, 3 toppings total, and wednesdays are worse, 5 dollar burrito BUT they pull out a smaller tortilla, same 3 toppings, same limited meat options, no chips or salsa with it. The burrito I got was slowly and agonizingly prepared by a newbie and ultimately fell apart. My pet peeve is a messy meal and this burrito was less rolled and more folded, dropping ingredients on the plate as I picked it up for every bite. Chips extra, salsa extra, etc etc. Moe's does a 5 dollar burrito and it's 3x the size. If yer gonna do a promotion in a competitive food market make it something without hidden catches so that we'll be more motivated to make plans for your specials on tue-wed. Even the "member rewards" program seems to take forever to accrue enough for a meal. If I was forced to find something positive, the 3 crunch em' tacos are a good value, as u can do a different meat for each taco, and they double decker it with queso or beans as the glue. Same price as the burrito. Go with the cheese glue, although it's not nearly as flavorful as Moe's queso. I guess I'm just spoiled from all the great taquerias back in NorCal. OH BTW, they probably don't want u to know this as it's nowhere on their website, but if you join their rewards club (a separate website) you get a free meal just for signing up. Then you can go for yourself with no risk and see if I am full of crap or not. Give it a go.

Plethora of meat and topping options gives this place a leg-up on the average burrito chain. Outdoor seating in downtown St. Pete was an added perk.

Good, late night, fast food. Very vegan/vegetarian friendly and good for people watching. I like that they have a variety of wraps to choose from, their mango salsa, and selection of grilled veggies. However, I am not a fan of paying extra for guac on a vegan burrito. They celebrate taco Tuesdays and have a nice selection of iced teas. Be prepared for some drunken messes if coming late on Friday or Saturday nights.

Great Healthy food, very fast service. Also superb accommodating service and services. The prices are very affordable, I tell everyone I know to go there at least once. And they love it as well!! I will continue to return there on a regular basis!!!

This is my favorite late night place. It is a welcome change from pizza. I also enjoy it when it is not late night. I have picked up Burrito Boarder food to go to different functions in downtown, such as Movies in the Park.

  • Yana W.

I like Burrito Boarder. I like that I get to choose every ingredient to make up my dish. I get to choose everything from what type of tortilla to get to what exactly goes on my taco or burrito. I do tend to stick with burritos, unless it a Taco Tuesday within $1 tacos. They do have a larger selection, but that's what I like. The staff is always upbeat and friendly. They are pretty chatty if the place isn't busy and make you feel very welcome. The prices are good and beer is available. The staff member didn't know whether or not they had lunch specials, last time I went...

  • Cale A.

We hit burrito boarder for the first time tonight. It was actually really good, I love that everything seemed completely disorganized and totally not like the other corporate Mexican places! We were a little worried at first but by the time we finally got our food it was really tasty! If they stay open late would be a great place to hit after a concert or hanging out on the town. Either way I'd recommend you hit it up before your next concert at Jannus. The guacamole was really good, and I was super impressed with the fish burrito, they said it was grouper which makes it the cheapest grouper I've had in my entire life!

This place was my favorite spot in St. Pete when it opened. It has been on a steady decline ever since, and sadly I will no longer be a customer. They used to have a great hot sauce bar with vibrant flavors like Peach, Buffalo, etc. Those went by the wayside. They used to have a great salsa bar open to customers. That is gone. Now you have to ask for it and they'll charge you extra. They used to serve hormone free, organic, fresh, locally sourced foods...no longer (even though their cups continue to falsely advertise this). They used to have a punch card for frequent visitors...gone. The food quality has gone way downhill and their food has no flavor. The service has gone downhill as well. Frankly, I am surprised they still have a loyal following. I wish they could go back to the old way of doing things because I am not the only customer who feels this way. For now, I am just waiting for another Mexican-style counter-service restaurant to compete with them in the Downtown space. Praying for a Willy's from Atlanta.

The food is decent, pretty much on par with Qdoba, Moe's, Chipotle, etc. The queso is delicious, but pretty expensive at a $1.50 upcharge and I think I like Qdoba's better. Extra star because the worker took a few extra seconds to properly wrap my burrito. Nothing more infuriating than blowholes or loose shells - this was seriously the most expertly wrapped burrito I've ever received. Well done.

I love this place! It I by far the best place to eat downtown. They are open late, the prices are good and the staff is friendly. The only down side is that it always takes forever . I stood in line at the little side window in an alley for 45 min and there were only 6 people ahead of me. If the Macho Nachos were not amazing I would have been pissed

  • Shakira H.

Solid! Some of the best queso we've had and some really good guac! We both had burritos and filled them up! We also had queso as a side. I got a spinach burrito filled with adobo chicken, fresh pico, cheese, rice, black beans, grilled peppers and onions and guac (costs extra - but sooo worth it!) I think my fiance got a flour wrap with carne asada (beef), corn salsa, pinto beans, grilled peppers and onions, cheese, rice, and guac. The service was great, the food was wonderful, and the atmosphere was fun. Such a great place with a great food. Looking forward to going back. If it's so great, why didn't I give 5 stars? Well because it was great and solid. There wasn't anything that made me fall out of my chair and die at the taste. I'm looking for a party in my mouth, and I had a really great cocktail reception. Have fun!

Burrito boarder is a skate shop themed restaurant offering Tacos, burritos, and similar items. I have been here at least five times and it unfortunately had severely degraded in quality. Environment (2/5 stars): Burrito Boarder features indoor and outdoor dining and features several TVs mounted around the walls. However the cleanliness of this establishment is appallingly lack luster. During my last visit, I encountered a bathroom mid-painting project with no signs and paint tracked out the door and leading to the kitchen. The indoor space has somewhat limited seating. Service (1/5 stars): Absolutely terrible. The service is slow, dirty, and rude. Food (3/5 stars): The food here is delicious but portion sizes aren't very generous. Compared to similar restaurants, the food here is good but nothing special. Price (2/5 stars): The prices here are a bit high. Your best bet is going on taco Tuesday for 1$ tacos. Overall (2/5 stars): This place has so much potential and was awesome when it first opened. Unfortunately it has degraded as a restaurant. The take away message is: go to chipotle or taco bus instead.

Brandon ate here after world of beer the other night, he used to rant and rave about this place but the last couple times he's been he hasn't been impressed the quality has been as great and the amount of meat and cheese has gotten rather skimpy. They were also sort of rude when we were in there and our friend had to wait quite a while for fish to be ready.

As un-people friendly half of the staff seems, the food is really good. I mean, out of the times i've been there, only one person didn't seem like he absolutely detested his job. one, out of, 10? Learn to smile. The burritos are good, but they can be a little cheap on the chips. If I'm paying extra for chips, I want more than 6. But over all, I do visit here often enough.

This place is the bomb-diggity. I used to confuse it with Chipotle cuz they are very similar, but never again will I make that mistake. Burrito Boarder is way better!! Judging on taste alone... their food is bursting with flavor. Just the right amount of spice, and tons of options to customize your meal.. salad, burrito, tortilla bowl (which is flaky, and semi-crunchy, semi-soft, deliciousness). The chicken is very moist. The cheese queso and cookies are also delish. And they have tons of help-yourself sauces and salsas, catering to different levels of spiciness. The iced tea section....BEST iced tea I've ever had. They have different flavors, and regular black tea. Some sweetened, some not. I love to mix them all up. And refills are free. They are also very eco-friendly. Read all about it when you go there. Nice to support businesses that support the earth. I SHOULD give them 4 stars because one time they were out of the tortilla bowl, which was the reason I went.. And I really wish they offered brown rice in addition to the white... BUT their food is so good that as soon as I have my first bite, I no longer care.

Better than Chipotle. Better than Tijuana Flats. Hands down best burrito anywhere! My favorite things about this place: wheat tortilla option, more filling options, and fresh cilantro! This place is my ultimate craving!

This place is a disaster, the service was poor and the staff looked and acted sedated. Here's a tip: don't ask for the baja fish, they don't even know what it is, plus it was tasteless and gross. Save yourself the wait in line and your $. Two meals and drink 26$$$ for burritos???

Awful. The employees working behind the counter were so disorganized and appeared to be arguing while we were standing right there. The rice and beans had no flavor at all and the tacos I got were lacking in flavor too.

I love this place. I work a couple blocks away so I go every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday (super cheap tacos after 2pm) and a couple times a month just to go. The place is small but the people are friendly, service is pretty quick, the food is reasonably priced and most importantly, delicious! They have a a good variety of meats and salsas to chose from, a variety of iced sweet and unsweet tea, and you can go as healthy or unhealthy as you want with it. The music is a little loud but its meant to be a fun, upbeat kind of place. Lots of ska, reggae, pop punk and such. There is also outdoor seating which I love.

Burrito Boarder!!! Whooooo! Great place in St. Pete to get your burrito on. Good selection of tortillas, meats, salsa, hot sauce, teas, and much more! So many different combinations. Staff is friendly, place is kept clean and overall a fun vibe to sit in, either outside or inside. Definitely need to check this place out!

Burrito Boarder gets the "Best Burrito in the Burg" award from me. The ingredients are fresh and have taste. Order the Crusher chicken, if you're a chicken burrito lover. Very generous burrito bowls are available for your consumption, if you're in the mood for less carbs. The staff always treats me well, even when it's late in the evening and I'm sure they're annoyed by the party crowd. And a big plus for mixing (pushing around the ingredients) the burrito before wrapping it. That's a very underrated part of making a good burrito. Agree? So, the only parts of this place that prevent it from the coveted "Chad U. 5 Star" rating is that the place kinda feels dirty. This is somewhat forgivable since it's downtown and probably difficult to stay on top of keeping the tables clean with all the foot traffic. In addition, I'd go there more often if it had easier parking. It's downtown, so, you'll have to search and walk. Sometimes when I'm hankering for a mushy burrito, I don't feel much like circling downtown.

Always great food, generally pretty good service as well. They just need to speed it up a little on Taco Tuesdays. We have waited in line for 20 mins before. Overall I would recommend this place!

I've been searching for the best Mexican place in St. Pete, I hold this place in very high esteem and here's why: 1) They have nachos! and they are not stingy with them. Casita Taqueria, Taco Bus, and Red Messa cannot compete with the nachos you get here. I guess to decide what I want and how I want it. Oh and the chips are made in house, so if you get them fresh made, FORGEDDABOUDDIT! 2) Price is good. 3) Better than Chipotle and Qdoba 4) Great toppings.

Burrito Boarder, you continually make me happy. Whether it's for lunch, dinner, or a post-bar-hopping 3AM snack, you're always a good choice. Are you going to find anything oustandingly mindblowing here? No, it's burritos. But you will find good ingredients, a fun atmosphere, and some fantastic Burrito Boarder branded hot sauces that you'll want to take home with you. I definitely recommend it over major chain places if you're craving some burrito-ey goodness.

While I was in St. Petersburg working the Republican National Convention, I decided that I wanted to take the bit of down time I had to go ahead and explore some of the St. Petersburg cuisine. My partner in crime and I decided on Burrito Boarder mainly because of the way someone on this Yelp! page described it--as a local mix between Chipotle and Tijuana Flats, two of our favorite Tex Mex stops. And honestly, although Burrito Boarder is a small shop located in downtown St. Pete, I almost feel like they had even more to offer than either T Flats or Chipotle. I say this because there are so many little choices that you can make to build the best burrito possible, including multiple tortilla choices (flour, wheat, chile, spinach, etc) and topping options (spicy sour cream, mango salsa). I decided to play it safe and get an adobo chicken burrito. However, my partner in crime went with the pulled pork and combined it with a zesty mango salsa. I definitely feel like he made the better choice and took advantage of all of the unique options at BB. Another thing I enjoyed is the fact that they had a few different freshly brewed iced teas. They even had a jasmine green tea, which I am a huge fan of. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was very relaxed...although I am sure it isn't that way all the time considering the location. Speaking of location--keep in mind that if you're going to Burrito Boarder, you will have to find street parking. And there actually isn't any directly in front of the shop, so you'll have to drive around the corner and walk. But overall that is a small price to pay for delicious burritos!

I go into Burrito Border on a weekly basis, mostly after midnight on weekends when it's slammed and a burrito is the only thing to make the night worthwhile. On St. Patty's Day, I went in despite a 20-minute wait in line and drunkards running wild. I had to get my usual two steak tacos with mango salsa, onions & cilantro, and chipotle sour cream. I told the staff that they were truly doing "God's work" and I meant it 100%. The staff is always having fun, willing to joke with you, and make your Mexican food anyway you like it-- even at 2am, when some dummy just stumbled into the wall and knocked off one of the many plaques that praise the establishment. Add heftily to the tip bucket at the end of the counter, they earned it. During normal lunch hours, its delight to duck into and relatively quiet. Get some tortilla soup, chips & queso, and watch surf competitions while sitting atop a skateboard deck fashioned into a stool. They have some really yummy iced teas, Horchata, and imported beers to top it off. Everything always tastes fresh and it makes me feel good to know they strive to be eco-friendly. Next time you think you want those big name burrito chains, stop yourself and try this instead, Burrito Border will outshine the others.

Coming from South Florida to St. Pete for the weekend, we decided to return to this awesome burrito place. With cheap drinks ($1.50 domestics) and an even cheaper happy hour, this place is a fun spot for mexican eats. Burrito Border has a chipotle style customized toppings bar (but with much better toppings and lots of vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian options). Also, any place that has sirracha next to a hot sauce bar gets at least 3 stars from me. The staff is cool and friendly and it's open super late. I'm excited for some late night Boarder in my future!

  • Dennis P.

I've had this place at least a dozen times. No matter how many times I ask them to go light on the salsa and queso they saturate my burrito/tacos to the point where they are merely soggy liquid transportation systems. The beans are like soup. Other than that it's kinda tasty I guess. Get the burrito bowl. If you don't, get your salsa/queso/beans on the side, then it will probably be good.

If you've ever wondered "Gee, what would it be like if Tijuana Flats got Chipotle pregnant at a party one night and they had a kid who was really into surfing, graphic design, and 90s music?" here's your answer! If you like both of those places, you'll probably like this place. If you don't like either of them, Burrito Boarder probably won't float your...board, either.

I have converted to Burrito Boarder-ism. Having been a former Chipotle-ologist, I was curious about this place that did the same concept (but better?) Step 1: Pick your style. In a burrito? Taco? No carbs? Personally I like getting the nachos because of the crunch. Either way a small batch of nachos come with the order. I always had to get nachos extra as a Chipotle-ist. Step 2: Pick your meat (and that's what places the base of your pricing). Steaks, chicken... even fish!?!?! Hurray! Fresh because everything is cooked in small batches and it's not over-seasoned either Step 3: Base toppings. I'm talking beans, meats, and cheese. Step 4: More toppings!! OMG You can add cilantro? OMG there's lots of different salsas? (and even more you can add yourself near the soda machine) As soon as you walk in, the college-age looking workers are fast to greet. They're always in such a good mood-- they've sometimes gotten my order wrong because of how much fun they were having in the kitchen. During lunch, it's not unusual to see the manager joking around with his employees or interacting with the customers. Customer service is tops here. This place is small in the heart of downtown. It can be easily missed except for the crazy beach-like paintings and crowds of people going in and out. The taste? Don't expect authentic Mexican, but expect the best of any American's take on the food. Fresh meat, fresh toppings... everything tastes natural. There's no reason to add salsa because the natural flavors do enough. Businessmen and college skippers haunt this place-- and it's worth it to join the crowd.

Move over Chipotle! Outta the way Tijuana Flats! Sorry Moe's---you're not even close to this casual-fresh-ingredient-hip-friendly-bigger-than-life-servings-Cal-Mex-burrito joint. Shoehorned into a cozy space on 3rd St N in downtown St Pete you can easily overlook this relatively new gem. Perfect for lunch. Friendly service. Upbeat attitude. Vibrant yet laid back. Come as you are ....... corporate types & boarders alike.

I have gone to Burrito Boarder about a dozen times however it seems to be less satisfactory each visit. This last visit was the cease of my patronage. I brought a family member because I said it was a good place for all of us due to our dietary confinements (him a vegan, me and my husband GF Vegetarians). I clearly did not choose a good place because 1. They changed, or burnt (not really sure) the queso because it was full of brown chunks and had the consistency of elmer's glue mixed with chalk dust. 2. The chips were horribly stale/rubbery (yuck) and 3.They had no guacamole, I said "really?" and the guy said the person who was supposed to bring it got fired, like it was a consolation for my pathetic vegetarian burrito bowl. 4. And lastly their veggie options with out queso and guac are DISGUSTING, who likes mushy over-cooked squash? Not I! I will opt for Chipotle next time even though I would much rather support local business instead.

Burrito Boarder is the freaking bomb. I just went to Chipotle to confirm this and it is true. BB has much more options when it comes to tortillas and toppings. I have only ever gotten the burrito, it seems like the best value and convenience. I recommend the spinach wrap with your fav meat, pinto beans, both quesos, cilantro&onions, pico, corn salsa, and lettuce. Guacamole is extra but its worth it if you are feeling like guac. The grilled vegetables are delicious too and I suggest adding that to your dish if you want a real treat. Ask for the cilantro ranch instead of sour cream. They don't really tell you about it but its the best. The chips are fresh and delicious, and they have some of my favorite salsa. Good selection of hot sauces too if you desire. They have beer and some delicious teas as well. Very clutch spot for late night.

In the first week that my better half and I lived in downtown St. Pete, we ended up eating here three times. Four if you count the Corned Beef burritos on St. Patrick's Day (which were amazing, by the way). I tend to opt for the Grilled Fish burritos or burrito bowls, the better half opts for the Adobo Chicken. They give you a massive amount of food for what you pay and all the ingredients are fresh and tasty. If you're a fan of hot sauce then you've got tons of options here. Oh, and they're open til 330a on the weekends. Awesome late night chow.

Will do when emergency Mexican food is needed. I usually order the High Sodium 'Fish Tacos, aka HSFT; the salsa's have a unique metallic quality to boot! I am a Pesco-vegetarian kinda guy.

Yuk! Filthy place. Brought my mother here for lunch and she was appalled by the language of the staff.she counted 15 times the F word being said.the only flavor the food had was sour. Absolutely horrible.we both spent the evening with upset stomachs after eating here.

The food wasn't bad, but when I walk into a restaurant ,and an off duty employee who is trying to be cute and kitschy while still in his uniform tells me to leave, because I won't like the food, and this is verbatim, "it sucks", it kinda turns me off, like I want to exit immediately. Then you have the numerous other ins-and outs of other employees from the back of house outside to smoke cigarettes, or whatever they were doing except working. I feel like all this traffic and total lack of regard for customers was just so glaringly obvious, I honestly felt like my food was not going to be safe to eat. Another thing I don't want to see your in-uniform employee doing, is make out with his girlfriend while I'm eating my burrito. I realize it's Friday, but if you can't have some semblance of respect for your workplace or employer, then you should find a new line of work. Night manager, get it together.

Just got a veggie burrito with a spinach wrap from this place and omg is it good. I choose to get "all" the veggies as opposed to just the peppers and onions and am glad I did. The onions were sweet and the mushrooms & squash are great too. Overall this burrito is really freaking good. Definitely recommended!

My wife and I shared their Macho Nachos, the guy dressed as a taco behind the counter advertised them as huge but they were about average for nachos. The queso was made on site and had a nice bite to it and the jalapenos were fresh. they had a variety of hot sauces to try and add but I didn't get around to trying them. all in all the place was tasty but not the best place I've ever eaten.

I finally discovered that I didn't need to order the Burrito and instead just get the yummy stuff in a bowl! ALL of the protein- fish, chicken, beef - is cooked in small quantities so that you KNOW that the food is fresh and has not been sitting out all day! The last time I went to my previous favorite Chipotle - a crowd of about 8 people had to wait for the chicken to cook as the grill had to be emptied of the beef they were cooking.... ?? Really? I would think the big chain would figure out to fill 1/2 the grill with chicken and 1/2 with beef - to keep things moving instead of cooking a full grill of one protein at a time.

It was nearing 1am. Alcohol had been consumed in abundance. We were in need of a burrito, someone at the con handed us a menu. Off we stumbled through downtown St Pete (luckily only a few blocks from the Hilton). The walk provided some fresh air and a chance to sober up slightly. Long enough anyway to order a burrito that had some good stuff in it. Black beans and chicken, some cheese, a little too much (and too salty) guac and sour cream. Hot sauces on the counter provided an extra kick of heat. We left satiated and ready to crash. It's probably better if you're sober, but for a drunk's night out, it was A-OK.

Went on Taco Tuesday night with an open mind! Cheap food is always a gamble. The staff was barely competent, the dude behind the counter could barely tell me what options I had for tortillas! I got one "grind" beef taco and one chicken taco. Each had the option of two toppings for free. I went with the cilantro/onions and queso fresco cheese. The chicken, although cooked from whole breasts earlier in the day, was very scarce in comparison to the toppings. I basically ate a cilantro and onion taco and was cold by the time I sat down. Also I ordered them on soft corn tortillas which were old and not fresh! Not going back ever... :( Taco bell would have been a better choice.

The little saying Yelp has next to the five star rating says "Woohoo! As good as it gets!." So I'll go ahead and say that this is as good as it gets for the casual tex-mex tacos/burritos/nachos type restaurants. Its hard not to compare it to Chipotle, which is the only casual burrito/tacos place I went to in Pinellas County before discovering this place. I have always ended up here on a Sunday, and the same two guys are working there, they're friendly though. It is the same as many other restaurants of the same type in that the price is based on the meat you get. The food itself is really awesome, the chicken, pork and steak are all pretty awesome in burritos or tacos. I wasn't personally a fan of the fish tacos, but everyone else who gets them is. The nachos are really darned fresh and tasty, I like that they are not baked with the stuff on it (the only time I don't like melty cheese). And this place certainly scores on the selection of salsas... ok so it is basically a copy of the salsas at chipotle but at least they also have a mango salsa and two other salsas at the hot sauce station for toppings your stuff and dipping chips in! I love that they have an option of shredded cheese or queso fresco. And lastly, they have Horchita...ok, I never tried the Horchita and I don't know what it is other than a drink, but it is fun to say. This place is one of my favs for a cheap lunch downtown. The food itself is really awesome, the chicken, pork and steak are all pretty awesome in burritos or tacos. I wasn't personally a fan of the fish tacos, but everyone else who gets them is.

I can't believe I moved away from Saint Petersburg and this epic burrito place popped up while I was gone! It almost makes me want to move back! The restaurant has a surfbum/skater decor that makes you feel right at home in St.Pete. The menu is read backwards right to left as you move down the counter. There's an array of menu options to create the perfect burrito, quesadilla, burrito bowls or tacos. I stopped in and they had a deal on taco tuesday, up to 10 tacos, only $1 each. My burrito was intense, the size of my face but it was built with only the freshest ingredients..spinach quesadilla, diced chicken, pico de gallo, cheese, cilantro, black beans, rice, fresh guacamole, sauteed onions and green peppers and some salsa from their salsa bar on the side. I especially loved their choices of teas. Black teas to green teas and everything in between. My sweet mango tea was the perfect pair for my colossal burrito.

The atmosphere is fun, food is reasonable for the price and staff has been energetic. I unfortunately won't be returning because of the cleaning practices I have witnessed. I will not mention what I experienced but, will advise the owner to oversee the cleaning of the hood from time to time.

Tuesdays are big in San Diego. That's because every Tuesday is 'Taco Tuesday,' wherein several dozen bars and restaurants around town serve all sorts of tacos, at all levels of culinary refinement, plus drinks and socializing. When I moved to St. Pete this past summer, i hoped to find a similar level of commitment to this Mexican standard fare. No such luck. So far, Burrito Boarder is the only joint I've found that offers Tuesday specials (a buck for most tacos). It also happens to serve above-average chow than most of the other casual Mexican joints I've tried in the area ((disclosure: I've yet to try Red Mesa, Zurritos, and anything else that people recommend). It's not enough of a hole in the wall to serve authentic Mexican, and I hate the theme (who makes themed restaurants these days, anyway?) but if I close my eyes, it's tasty enough. Quality meats (esp. the Carnitas) and a respectable variety of toppings in the vein of Chipotle/Pancheros. Haven't tried the fish yet, but they claimed California quality, so they've got big, delicious shoes to fill. What has set BB apart the most from other joints is that they serve freely refillable Horchata. For the uninducted, Horchata is rice milk flavored with cinnamon and vanilla, and is supremely delicious. Grab a burrito with more spicy veggies than you think you can handle and scarf it with creamy cupful. Heaven. The quest for the solidest Mexican continues. Taking recommendations.

I give this place 5 stars. Granted I've only been there late night and not exactly sober but I love it there none the less. I usually get the chicken nachos, they are amazing. I've sampled other selections from friends plates and have always liked what I tasted. The staff is a blast and always smiling. I think it's cool that you can watch a movie on their wall while you eat too. Be sure to say hi to Nate when you're there. It's not his real name but he'll answer to it anyway.

Very laid back atmosphere and staff. Great place to meet up with friends for good food. The decor is casual surfer/skater with action sports on the television screens for ambiance. Skip this place unless you are in a drunken pinch downtown. Well flavored food and cool atmosphere. The primary drawback is that this is an establishment that offers very small amounts of real food while trying to satiate its customers with cheap filler. Basically, they take advantage of their customers. If you want this style of food, you are much better off actually going to Chipotle.

    (1)
  • Jim T.

I love this place. I am not sure what happened with Lance above, but the menu at this place is somewhat like Chipolte, but much better and fresher. I have never been disappointed with the serving size. The staff is alway friendly and wants to be sure you are pleased.

Found this place by accident, was lost in St. Pete and needed food before i died, so stopped in here for a burrito. I was pleasantly surprised. Big Burritos packed with meat, beans, veggies, and a good spicy salsa; right up my ally. I was there on a Tuesday for "Taco Tuesday" but choose to eat a huge burrito; non-the-less the "taco Tuesday" deal looked pretty good. The food itself was not much different than one of those burrito chains (ie Chipotle) but the part that got me more excited about this place was that all their meat and veggies were either organic or some description close to that. They also had organic black iced tea as well as a few other organic iced sweetened and unsweetened teas. they also are open till 2 am, which seemed like a good idea for the college kids from down the street at USF. Over all I thought this place was good, i would go back next time I am in St. Pete but they need something that sets them apart from the rest of the burrito market.
